Truth be told, I LOVE shooting in the wind. A little weather can't scare me, especially when I have a couple like Emily & Carly in front of my lens. Not only are they easy on the eyes, but the fluid way they move around one another and love each other is natural and beautiful as breathing.
I rarely get to meet my couples before they sign on the dotted line, securing me as the official documenter of their wedding day. And as I stood outside the Carmel Mission, waiting for Rahul and Alexia, with no clue what they looked like, I realized that THAT is kind of amazing. People book me based on vibes felt through emails and phone calls, and those vibes have been correct 100% of the time. Never have I met with a couple for their engagement shoot and thought, "Nope. We were wrong. The vibes failed us." Instead, I manage to book kindred spirits - good-hearted, kind people who value storytelling and genuine emotion (and a sense of humor to boot). These two were no exception.
I'm not saying I didn't enjoy photographing pregnancy before I had a baby of my own, but compared to how greatly I love documenting this transition NOW versus THEN -- it is night and day. I consider it the highest honor to be invited into the last remaining moments of a couple's life before it is forever changed.
I have this friend, her name is Rhyan.
Her work is no stranger to this blog of mine, because she is the artist behind every mythological goddess in my Creatures Series.
She is currently in the throes of rebranding and redesigning her website, so we decided to get some babes together and play dress up. Rhyan is truly a wizard when it comes to hair and makeup. She creates the boldest, most stunning looks -- and it seems so effortless. She is creative through and through, and I am honored to count her among my friends.
Do yourself a favor and follow her on Instagram and Facebook so you can be the first to know when her new website launches, featuring even more photos from this gorgeous shoot!!!
